Ellis Medicine Urgent Care / Primary Care Center

Ellis Medicine Urgent Care / Primary Care Center

HEA designed the M/E/P fit-ups for a new 10,000 sf Ellis Medicine Urgent and Primary Care Center in a newly constructed four-story, 67,000 sf retail/office building associated with the Mohawk Harbor development in Schenectady, NY. The office includes 12 exam rooms, laboratories, radiology spaces, a triage area, and patient waiting/reception areas as well as offices, team areas, a soiled utility room, employee team and break spaces, rest rooms and various other storage/support spaces.

The project’s M/E/P systems were designed to Facilities Guidelines Institute (FGI) guidelines for outpatient facilities. HVAC for most of the spaces is provided by a variable air system. Additional cooling for radiology spaces is provided by a stand-alone air conditioning system. The HVAC design was particularly challenging given the extensive use of glass on the building’s facade. Additionally, the drainage, waste and venting (DVW) design had to account for the fact that the center is above an underground parking garage, which is subject to freezing conditions during the winter.

Notably, HEA also designed the M/E/P systems and building utilities for the building itself as well as the associated parking garage.
